The top honour of the evening ‘Lincolnshire Museum of the Year 2012’ was awarded to Louth Museum; much to the surprise and delight of all concerned. The plaque will enjoy pride of place in the Museum’s reception area and is sure to boost the spirits of all the volunteers who have worked so hard (and still do) to earn this prestigious award.
“Louth Museum is constantly pushing at the boundaries of what is achievable on a very modest budget and showing just what is possible if you have passion and imagination. It demonstrates a strong focus on inclusivity by appealing to the widest possible age range” - Professor David Sleight, Dean of the Faculty at Lincoln University and Head of the judging panel.
The recently re-designed archaeology displays, entitled ‘Do You Dig Archaeology’, were ‘Highly Commended’ and a framed certificate was presented.
“This display impressed because, despite most artefacts being within cabinets, they were mounted in such a way as to allow intimate inspection from many angles. Excellent use of space, with the display on no less than four levels, and the very welcome possibility of actually being able to touch various pieces, results in a feeling of total immersion” - Professor David Sleight, Dean of the Faculty at Lincoln University and Head of the judging panel.
